LinkedIn statistics for 2026 describe a network that keeps adding members much faster than it adds active users. Membership grew at a double-digit rate for the fifth year in a row (Microsoft, FY26 Q4 earnings call, Jul 2026). The only official count of monthly users, which European law forces LinkedIn to publish, is a small fraction of that member total. The people who do show up are spending more time: time spent on content rose 10% year over year in the April to June 2026 quarter (LinkedIn, Q4 FY26 business highlights, Jul 2026).

The numbers below cover members and real usage, who uses LinkedIn, what they do there, how much of it is written by AI, what B2B ads return, what LinkedIn's data says about hiring, and how the platform deals with fake accounts and regulators. Each figure links to the organisation that produced it, usually LinkedIn itself, Microsoft's filings, a regulator or an independent researcher, and carries the date of its data. None is copied from another roundup. The page is refreshed every month.

Key Takeaways

How big is LinkedIn in 2026?

A LinkedIn member is not a LinkedIn user. LinkedIn reports members and revenue every quarter, and the one official count of monthly activity comes from a European law, not from the company's own reporting.

How many members does LinkedIn have by region and country?

Europe, the Middle East and Africa is LinkedIn's largest region, with more than 430 million members, ahead of Asia Pacific with more than 410 million (LinkedIn Pressroom, Dec 2025). The Americas are smaller than most people assume.

  • North America has more than 290 million members and South and Central America more than 226 million (LinkedIn Pressroom, Dec 2025).
  • By country, the United States leads with more than 252 million members, followed by India with more than 173 million and Brazil with more than 94 million (LinkedIn Pressroom, member map, Dec 2025).
  • In Europe, the UK has more than 46 million members, France more than 37 million and Germany, Austria and Switzerland together more than 30 million (LinkedIn Pressroom, member map, Dec 2025).
  • LinkedIn lists more than 144,000 schools and 42,000 skills, and close to every Fortune 500 company has a presence (LinkedIn Pressroom, Jul 2026).
  • About 20.7% of all adults worldwide had a LinkedIn account in January 2025 (DataReportal, Mar 2025).
  • The audience advertisers could reach grew by 176 million members, or 17.1%, between January 2024 and January 2025 (DataReportal, Mar 2025).

How many people use LinkedIn every month?

LinkedIn does not publish monthly active users for the world. The closest official figure comes from the EU's Digital Services Act, which requires a count of logged-in users, and it has grown slowly.

How fast is LinkedIn's revenue growing?

Growth sped up through Microsoft's 2026 fiscal year, from 10% in the July to September 2025 quarter to 12% by April to June 2026.

Who uses LinkedIn?

LinkedIn is a network for graduates and higher earners first. Pew found that education splits its audience more sharply than any other platform it measures.

Figure 2: LinkedIn's column shows the steepest climb with income and education of any platform Pew tracks. Source: Pew Research Center, Americans' Social Media Use, Jan 2024. Chart published by the source, captured 5 Oct 2026.

What share of US adults use LinkedIn?

About a third. 32% of US adults said they used LinkedIn in 2024, double the 16% Pew measured in 2012 (Pew Research Center, Social Media Fact Sheet, Nov 2025).

Do income, place and gender change who uses LinkedIn?

Income and place matter far more than gender. In Pew's 2023 data, use rises from 13% of US adults in households earning under $30,000 to 53% in households earning $100,000 or more (Pew Research Center, Jan 2024).

  • 36% of suburban adults use LinkedIn, against 31% of urban and 18% of rural adults (Pew Research Center, Jan 2024).
  • 45% of Asian American adults use LinkedIn, the highest of any racial or ethnic group Pew reports (Pew Research Center, Jan 2024).
  • In the US the gender gap is small: 31% of men and 29% of women use it (Pew Research Center, Jan 2024).
  • Worldwide, 56.9% of the audience in LinkedIn's ad tools is male (DataReportal, Mar 2025).
  • Women make up 49.6% of that audience in Northern America but only 29.7% in Southern Asia (DataReportal, Mar 2025).
  • In the UK, men account for 58% of the minutes adults spend on LinkedIn (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025, Dec 2025).

How many people use LinkedIn in the UK?

About 18.4 million UK adults visited LinkedIn in May 2025, 38% of adults who were online (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025, Dec 2025). That is well under half of LinkedIn's UK member count.

  • The monthly audience was 18.9 million in May 2023 and 18.3 million in May 2024, so it has been flat for two years (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025, Dec 2025).
  • On an average day 4.7 million UK adults visited LinkedIn (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025, Dec 2025).
  • The average UK adult visitor spent 2 minutes a day on LinkedIn, against 51 minutes on YouTube (Ofcom, Online Nation 2025, Dec 2025).

What do members do on LinkedIn?

Engagement on LinkedIn is rising, a growing share of the posts behind it are written by software, and AI assistants now quote LinkedIn more than almost any other site. All three show up in LinkedIn's own figures and in independent data.

How active are LinkedIn members?

More active every quarter, mostly as readers. Every minute, members view more than 1.8 million feed updates (LinkedIn Pressroom, Jul 2026), and the fastest growth is in comments and knowledge-style posts.

How much LinkedIn content is written by AI?

More than on any other major platform. In Pangram's scan of posts users viewed through its browser extension, 30% of short LinkedIn posts of 50 to 250 words were fully AI-generated (Pangram Labs, Jul 2026). This is vendor research from an AI-detection company.

  • LinkedIn made up about a third of the items Pangram scanned but 62% of all the AI content it flagged (Pangram Labs, Jul 2026).
  • Across all five platforms in the study, 13.8% of scanned items were flagged as AI-generated (Pangram Labs, Jul 2026).
  • The dataset covered 1,002,627 posts collected from April 24, 2026 (Pangram Labs, Jul 2026).

For brands, the takeaway is practical. When a large share of posts is machine-written, original data and named expertise are what stand out (see our content marketing statistics).

Do AI assistants cite LinkedIn content?

Often, and the share is rising. LinkedIn was the second most-cited domain across ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, appearing in 11% of AI responses on average (Semrush, LinkedIn AI visibility study, Mar 2026). This is vendor research, and Semrush says it worked with LinkedIn on the data.

  • LinkedIn appeared in 14.3% of ChatGPT Search responses, 13.5% of Google AI Mode responses and 5.3% of Perplexity responses (Semrush, LinkedIn AI visibility study, Mar 2026).
  • Long-form LinkedIn articles make up 50% to 66% of cited LinkedIn content, against 15% to 28% for feed posts (Semrush, LinkedIn AI visibility study, Mar 2026).
  • The median cited post has 15 to 25 reactions and no more than one comment, so a post does not need to go viral to be cited (Semrush, LinkedIn AI visibility study, Mar 2026).
  • Nearly half of cited post authors have 2,000 or more followers, and about three quarters had posted more than five times in the previous four weeks (Semrush, LinkedIn AI visibility study, Mar 2026).
  • On ChatGPT, LinkedIn's rank among cited domains rose from about 11th in November 2025 to about 5th by March 2026, more than doubling its citation frequency (Profound, Mar 2026).
  • Posts, articles and newsletters published on LinkedIn make up about 35% of its ChatGPT citations, up from about 27% at the start of that period (Profound, Mar 2026).

For brands that track how AI assistants describe them, LinkedIn articles are now worth measuring alongside their own site.

How do B2B marketers use LinkedIn ads?

LinkedIn charges more per click than Google or Meta in B2B attribution data, and it still returns the most revenue for each euro spent. Both facts are true at once.

How fast is LinkedIn advertising growing?

Faster than LinkedIn as a whole, with video leading. Paid video ads grew 26% year over year in the figures LinkedIn published after its April to June 2026 quarter (LinkedIn Pressroom, Jul 2026).

Do LinkedIn ads pay back?

In Dreamdata's attribution data they do, and by more each year. LinkedIn's return on ad spend rose from 113% in 2024 (Dreamdata, LinkedIn Ads Benchmarks Report 2026, Mar 2026).

Paid reach on LinkedIn stops when the budget does. Search traffic to pages you own keeps arriving, which is why the two work best together (see our SEO statistics).

Which LinkedIn ad formats perform best?

Formats that borrow a person's voice or a publisher's video beat standard brand ads in LinkedIn's own data. BrandLink video campaigns had a 130% higher completion rate and a 23% higher view rate than standard in-feed video ads (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2025).

  • Members exposed to a BrandLink campaign were 18% more likely to become a lead when they later saw a Lead Gen Form (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2025).
  • Thought Leader Ads lifted click-through rates by 45% at the awareness stage, 19% at consideration and 48% at conversion (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2026).
  • Advertisers pairing Thought Leader Ads with full-funnel spend got 4.2 times more bottom-of-funnel conversions per company (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2026).
  • Thought Leader Ads drove a 252% higher click-through rate than standard single image ads among B2B buyers (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2026).
  • Members are 2.6 times more likely to engage with paid creator content than with ads that use no creator (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2026).
  • In one case study, ServiceNow's connected TV campaign on LinkedIn, viewers were 45% more likely to complete a lead form (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Jan 2026).
  • Advertisers testing Accelerate, LinkedIn's AI campaign builder, improved cost per action by up to 42% (LinkedIn Marketing Solutions, Sep 2025).
  • Premium Company Page subscribers see 7.5 times more Page engagement on average (LinkedIn Newsroom, May 2026).

What does LinkedIn data say about jobs and hiring?

LinkedIn's hiring data shows a slow market, not an AI-driven collapse. Hiring looks similar for the roles most and least exposed to AI, and LinkedIn's economists blame economic uncertainty and interest rates first (LinkedIn Newsroom, Labor Market Report, Jan 2026).

How fast is US hiring on LinkedIn?

Slowly. US hiring rose 1.9% from July to August 2026 but was 6.5% lower than in August 2025 (LinkedIn Economic Graph, Workforce Report September 2026, Sep 2026).

How are job seekers and recruiters using AI?

Both sides are leaning on it. 81% of people have used or plan to use AI in their job search, and 48% say AI tools boost their interview confidence (LinkedIn, Talent research, Jan 2026).

Which jobs and skills are growing fastest?

AI skills and self-employment. In the US, jobs that require AI literacy skills such as prompt engineering grew 70% year over year (LinkedIn Economic Graph, Labor Market Report 2026, Jan 2026).

How does LinkedIn handle fake accounts, scams and regulation?

LinkedIn blocks more fake accounts in six months than it has logged-in monthly users in the EU, and regulators now check the numbers. Most of the defence is automated.

How many fake accounts and scams does LinkedIn stop?

Almost all of them before anyone reports them. 99.7% of fake accounts stopped in July to December 2025 were caught proactively, and automated defences blocked 97.8% (LinkedIn Community Report, Dec 2025).

  • Another 24.4 million fake accounts were restricted after registration but before any member report, and 361,300 after members reported them (LinkedIn Community Report, Dec 2025).
  • In January to June 2025, 61.2 million fake accounts were stopped at registration, so the figure rose by almost half in six months (LinkedIn Community Report, Jun 2025).
  • LinkedIn removed 68.3 million pieces of spam or scam content proactively and 158,300 after member reports (LinkedIn Community Report, Dec 2025).
  • Automated defences stopped 98.6% of the spam and scam content removed (LinkedIn Community Report, Dec 2025).
  • Verified members get up to 60% more profile views and up to 50% more engagement on posts, and verified Pages get 10.9 times more views and 7.7 times more followers (LinkedIn Newsroom, Dec 2025).

How much content does LinkedIn remove?

Harassment leads by a wide margin. LinkedIn removed 477,911 pieces of harassing or abusive content in July to December 2025 (LinkedIn Community Report, Dec 2025).

What fines and lawsuits has LinkedIn faced?

The biggest is still the Irish fine over ad targeting, which LinkedIn is appealing. The inquiry behind it began on 20 August 2018, after a complaint by the French group La Quadrature du Net (Irish Data Protection Commission, Oct 2024).

  • LinkedIn appealed the decision in November 2024, and a preliminary hearing took place in December 2025 (Microsoft, Form 10-K FY2026, Jul 2026).
  • The European Commission sent LinkedIn requests for information under the Digital Services Act in January and March 2024 (European Commission, Mar 2024).
  • The hiQ Labs scraping case ran from June 2017 to December 2022 and ended in a consent judgment and permanent injunction (CourtListener, hiQ Labs v. LinkedIn, Dec 2022).
  • LinkedIn sued the data scraper ProAPIs for breach of contract, fraud and computer fraud on 2 October 2025 and won a judgment on consent on 16 September 2026 (CourtListener, LinkedIn v. ProAPIs, Sep 2026).
  • Since 3 November 2025, LinkedIn has used some member data in the EU, EEA, Switzerland, Canada and Hong Kong to train content-generating AI models, with a setting to opt out (LinkedIn Help, Update to our Terms and data use, Nov 2025).

Methodology and Sources

Every statistic on this page comes from the organisation that produced the data: LinkedIn's Pressroom, Newsroom, Economic Graph, Community Report and EU transparency filings; Microsoft's SEC filings and earnings materials; Pew Research Center, Ofcom and the European Commission; court dockets; and research firms when they ran the study themselves (Dreamdata, Pangram Labs, Semrush, Profound and DataReportal, labelled where used). LinkedIn's own disclosures make up most of the citations because the company is the only source for most of its numbers; where an independent source exists, it is used. Statistics roundups and competitor stat pages were excluded. We do not cite the widely repeated monthly active user figure because LinkedIn does not publish one outside the EU. Every URL was opened and the number checked on 5 October 2026; for the two pages that block scripted reads (Science and Ofcom), the text was checked through PubMed's abstract and a rendered copy of the Ofcom report. The page is reviewed monthly and figures are replaced when a newer release appears.
